Bonds Fails Drug Test, Throws Teammate Under Bus, Proceeds to Lift Bus

From "Report: Bonds failed amphetamine test" (AP/ESPN.com):

NEW YORK -- Barry Bonds failed a test for amphetamines last season and originally blamed it on a teammate, the Daily News reported Thursday.

When first informed of the positive test, Bonds attributed it to a substance he had taken from teammate Mark Sweeney's locker, the New York City newspaper said, citing several unnamed sources.

That is cold, Barry. Fail a test for greenies and blame it on a guy making $850,000 (to your $19,331,470)? This incident should ensure a pleasant clubhouse atmosphere for the Giants next season.

And as if Bonds' character isn't taking enough of a beating, word also has it that his entourage is the main reason the Giants have not yet finalized his contract:

Club executives are insisting the contract they offered to Bonds on Dec. 7 includes a proviso that would bar trainers, personal assistants, friends and other members of his entourage from the locker room at San Francisco's AT&T Park and other team facilities.

"The posse rule is the real sticking point in the Bonds deal," a baseball source familiar with the talks said. "Bonds doesn't see why anything needs to be different than in the past, or different from any other players."

If character issues don't bother Bonds, then here's what should: Mark McGwire. McGwire never failed any drug tests and still didn't make the Hall of Fame. Bonds' failed test may be erode what remains of his public support.
